little treasures

when packing up my whole life, i love coming across the littlest treasures + keepsakes
--------->like these cowrie + mother of pearl salt + pepper shakers that my dear friend kristy got me for my birthday this year!

[product of roost, photo found on velocity art + design]

they bring a smile to my face amidst all this chaos.

baked acorn squash with brown sugar

fall is finally here + i couldn't be more pleased!
now that the air is crisp + the leaves are beginning to turn i can't help but get excited
---------->i love fall
so. so. much.
[!!!]

one of my all time favourite fall recipes is for baked acorn squash with brown sugar
it is buttery + warm + utterly delightful
[as well as being light on the pocketbook!]
so prepare for a delectable evening of tasty goodness!

ingredients:
2 tablespoons butter, plus more for surface
2 medium acorn squash, (about 1 1/2 pounds each)
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons honey
Coarse salt and ground pepper

directions:
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Generously butter a rimmed baking sheet.
2. Halve squash crosswise. Scoop out seeds; discard. Slice a small piece off bottom of each squash half just enough to level.
3. Set squash halves, scooped sides down, on prepared sheet. Bake until golden, 20 to 25 minutes. Turn squash; prick insides all over with a fork. Divide 2 tablespoons butter, honey and sugar among halves; season with salt and pepper. Continue to bake until flesh is easily pierced with the tip of a paring knife, 25 to 30 minutes. Serve warm.

this is a fun + easy recipe you can play with
------------>try adding some cinnamon or cayenne pepper to spice things up!

oh snap.

me: "what's snap?"
jordan: "it's a tomahawk. duh."

what now?
---->i was browsing for me, for you
a sweet little blog you should all take a moment for
when i came across SNAP
[+ what the hell is that?]
so i say to myself: "what's snap"
[apparently it's ginger snap spirits + you can only get it in philly!]
simultaneously, beside me, jordan is taking a break from packing as well + watching a tv show.
he mishears me as saying: "what's that?" as someone very obviously pulls out a tomahawk + says, a little incredulously:
"it's a tomahawk. duh."

it was a special moment followed by much giggling.

hank williams III:
a dapper gentleman of excellent taste + style.
he likes nesting in soft blankets, chewing on small stuffed animals, racing, romancing lovely ladies, fine wine, spending time with his friends + family, + being generally adorable.
he is also my god.puppy
[you will be seeing a lot of him----->he's magical + i love him so]

i hope you have something as equally wonderful as my hank to brighten your day!

bloody bloody andrew jackson

say hello to the newest rock opera!
bloody bloody andrew jackson
----->he puts the "man" in manifest destiny
curious?
i certainly was.
what an awkward subject for a musical, especially considering the racism involved
but i enjoyed listening to this little snippet here.
let me know what you think!

+ thankyou npr for bringing this delicious morsel to my attention
[i'm excited to hear the full score]

good morning bell, good night

in my time.warped delirium last night/this morning i miserably failed to set my alarm properly.
+ for this i was punished.
have you ever heard, or can you imagine, an old fashioned metal fire alarm go off in a echoey tiled hallway?
well that is the noise that so vehemently emanated from my little phone mere inches from my sleeping head.
AT FULL VOLUME.
suffice to say: i moved very fast
+ suddenly i was quite awake + suffering palpitations

thankfully this all ended delightfully when i discovered justin cox's photos of what his friends look like going to bed
[sleep was still on the mind]

unfortunately there is no direct link to these little treasures anymore, but i found a few more here on one of my newly favourite blogs a cup of jo!
+ speaking of a cup of jo
----->i think i'll go get one

her morning elegance / oren lavie

my baby sister, abigail, showed me this darling music video several weeks ago
---->it seems strangely appropriate as i've just noticed the clock at 3a.m.
to bed we go!

such lovely lies

this evening, or morning
[i'm moving + amongst all these boxes time has lost all meaning]
i was casually shuffling through my itouch, higgins, when i stumbled across a gem:
white lies

my dear friend stacy loaded higgins with an array of musical sweets + much of the time i have no idea what is playing.
this caught my attention amidst the usual noise + i've been pleasantly surprised.
a little reminiscent of depeche mode in the best possible way
---->check it out + perhaps you will have found a new tune or two

well hello dearheart:

i suppose you could say i am here to share, as my mother taught me to.
i am mainly concerned w/ the finer things in life:
-rainy days
-hot tea + fresh honey
-books
-the smell of the ocean
-the northwest in general
-owl figurines
-singing while doing the dishes
+ of course, dancing in my underwear.

my goal, if i have one, is to give back some of the good things
[the beautiful things, the things i am grateful for]

also: i pay absolutely no regard to proper syntax.
